The Marriage Junkie Kick Your Obsession with Relationships and Learn to Love Living with Yourself by Sherry Gaba
About The Book:
After Rihanna and Alanis Morissette and Amber Smith and Rachel Uchitel, we’ve all heard about love addiction—people who feel they can only be happy when they are deep in an all-consuming love. There are a handful of books about it
but no one has approached the subject of its equally damaging cousin—marriage and relationship addiction. Marriage addicts are so in love with love that they continually move from one relationship to another, always on the rebound, never giving themselves time to heal and learn how to be independent. They marry again and again, just to avoid feeling lonely—or worse, to avoid feeling “abnormal.”
They become dependent on their object of affection, hoping somehow these people will complete their lives and create a kind of happily ever after.
The Marriage Junkie will address looking at early childhood trauma and how that affects our subsequent choices in partners, and how we approach love and marriage. It will discuss the lessons we learn from our upbringing and social and cultural background.
It will examine the tangle of social pressures and conventions, and how they further ensnare people who have a hard time feeling secure on their own—pulling them time after time into unhealthy relationships.
The second half of the book will focus on how to break the cycle of marriage and relationship addiction and live fabulously—on your own or with a partner.
The book will offer specific guidelines on how to achieve a life that is not only relationship and marriage addiction-free, but one that is filled with joy, peace, and serenity—whether you are in a relationship or not.
