Be A Better Me… For You by Jim Morack

So much of how our lives turn out is determined by the decisions we make. It is equally important to say that outcome also includes decisions we don’t make.

A few years ago I became fascinated with the idea of, what does it take to end up becoming the best possible version of myself… my Ideal Self? After giving it a great deal of thought, I began outlining every area of my life and quickly saw two common denominators.

It didn’t matter if it was about my relationships, health, career, goals, making money, or whatever. In every case the answer to improving myself – or becoming a Better Me – involved two critical things: Affecting sustainable and uplifting change in my life meant that I had to do it for me, and I had to create that change around what I saw as being my Ideal Self – the person I aspired to become and how that person would act, think, feel, and be.

As a quick example, if you are overweight and decide it’s time to lose it, you need to do it for you. Not your doctor, significant other, or anyone else. You need to get in better health because it is important to you. For at the end of the day, you are stuck with you. Others will come and go in your life, and if you base your decisions on their advice or to please them, your reasons to stay faithful to your decision to get healthier may also leave when they do.

Secondly, use your internal reference point – your Ideal Self – as your guidance system to successfully navigate the distance between where you are now and where you want to be. When you visualize what the Better Me version of you looks like, feels like, acts like, and is like, you will slowly but surely begin making decisions that lead you in the direction you want to go.

In short, aligning yourself with your Ideal Self will lead you to become a Better Me.

That philosophy applies to all areas of your life. It is simple, easy to understand, and will make you successful in your endeavors and relationships, personally and professionally. By simply asking yourself, “What would my Ideal Self do in this situation?” you open the gates to thinking better, feeling better, taking more empowering actions, and living a more satisfying and fulfilling life.

By becoming a Better Me, you not only create the person you want to become, but now you can share that gift with others. It starts with you but ends up in your home, your community, your employer, your organizations and clubs, and all the people your life will touch.
